3 Reasons You Fail to Form New Habits
How many times have you tried to form a new life-changing habit? And how many times have you failed to do so? I’m guessing it’s a pretty high percentage. I know it is for me, and I consider myself to be a pretty disciplined person.
When you fail to form a new habit, you are breaking a promise to yourself. You allow this to happen because you are not using your Deliberate Thinking skills.
Here are 3 areas of your life that you have presumably tried to form new habits around and failed:
- Exercise. You start a new exercise routine and don’t see the results you want to. One little-known reason: you didn’t perform the exercises deliberately. You have to focus on the body parts you are using, focus on your breathing, and focus on your time under tension.
- Sleep. We need to sleep well — got it. The thing standing in your way of achieving this goal is a deliberate bedtime routine. This helps your body recognize that it’s time to start shutting down.
- Time. You’ve tried every method out there to manage your time, but you can’t seem to do it. One life hack I have learned is to deliberately take advantage of every free minute I have. For example, you get to an appointment 10 minutes early — how do you use that time? Maybe you do need to just chill for a minute. That can be a good use of time, but make the choice deliberately. Don’t just automatically start scrolling through your SM feed because you have nothing else to do. You would be surprised how much you can get done in a day by employing this hack.
