3 Truths to Remember When
You Feel Like You're Losing Control
It’s Monday of week #2 of the COVID-19 pandemic. At least it’s week #2 for us; the 2nd week that schools and a lot of businesses are shut down.
This break from the norm makes a lot of people feel like they’re losing control. Our daily routines have been interrupted. We don’t know what businesses will be ordered to shut down next. And, the worst part, we don’t know when we’ll ever be able to wipe our butts again since the toilet fairies seem to have reclaimed all of the toilet paper. ?
But seriously, now’s a good time to remember three important truths you can fall back on when you feel like you’re losing control. Hopefully these truths will help you keep things in perspective and remind you that you handle whatever life throws at you.
- You cannot predict the future. All you can do is play the cards that are in your hand right now. Yes, I know you like to plan your life; I’m a big planner myself. But you have to remember . . .
- Your plans are adaptable. Sure, you should have goals that you’re planning for. And, yes, it’s a good idea to plan for uncertainties as best you can. But, you have to be willing to change course as needed to accomplish your goals and meet your needs.

Truth #3
#3 – You never had any control to begin with. Nothing has changed. This has always been true. The only difference is that you are now more aware of it. This reality has been thrown in your face, and now you have two choices: (1) truly lose control by playing victim or (2) take control of the one thing you have control of — your own thoughts and actions.
