3 Unselfish Reasons to Be Selfish
“SELF-CARE” It’s a buzzword we’ve all heard. Articles encouraging you to take care of yourself have probably littered your social media feed once or twice.
It’s something we all know is important — the whole put your oxygen mask on before you put someone else’s on thing. Yet, we all neglect to take care of ourselves to a certain extent.
Why? Of course my answer is: Expectations. We’re trying to live up to what others expect of us, and we’re also trying to live up to our self-inflicted expectation of not disappointing anyone. Both of these habits are huge energy thieves, which means, at the end of the day, there’s no energy left for self-care.
But what if we flip the script and make self-care about someone else. Not directly about us at all. Would that make it easier to focus on it? Let’s find out with these 3 unselfish reasons to be selfish.
- Your kids are following your example. Even if you don’t have kids, you probably have nieces, nephews, etc., who look up to you. When you adopt good habits, they take notice, whether you realize it or not. They will want to form good habits for themselves as they strive to be just like you.
- You never know the impact you have on other people’s lives. Your tenacity and willingness to incorporate self-improving habits into your life will inspire others to do the same, whether you even realize it or not. Then they will inspire others to do the same. And so on and so on. That’s pure magic!
- You don’t want to burden others. No one does, right? Well, hello…that means you need to take care of yourself then, doesn’t it? Can I get an Amen?
