3 Ways to Become More Confident Today
Could you use a little boost in your confidence today? We can all use a little boost, right?
I tend to believe that building confidence is a life-long process, but there are easy things you can do every day to give yourself a little shot of confidence.
The more of these little shots you give yourself, the easier it will be to take the bigger leaps that require a lot of confidence.
I challenge you to do all 3 of these super-simple things TODAY!
- Make a small connection with/help someone. We are biologically wired to connect with and help people, which is why doing so makes us feel good. When we feel good, we get a boost of confidence. Here are a few almost-effortless things you can do: (1) hold the door open for someone and tell them to have a good day; (2) if you’re not in a hurry and can tell someone else is, let them slide in front of you in line; (3) give someone a genuine compliment.
- Make an effort to empathize with someone. When someone is rude, mean, or disrespectful to us, we tend to internalize it and make it about us. What did I say/do? You take a blow to your confidence. Chances are very high that the person’s reaction to you has absolutely nothing to do with you. They are struggling with something and taking it out on you. Recognizing this and choosing to be understanding will do two things: (1) you’ll let the slight slide right off your back, and it won’t affect your confidence, and (2) you’ll remind yourself that you’re not the only one facing challenges in life, which will give you the confidence to face yours head-on.
- Complete (or at least work on) that project you’ve been putting off. Why aren’t you tackling that project? What are you afraid of? Yes, you’re afraid of something; that’s why we procrastinate. You could be afraid of failure or rejection. Think of how great it will be to face that fear and complete that task. To show yourself that you can do it! And even if you do fail, you’ll show yourself that you tried, the world didn’t end, and you learned something. That’s a huge confidence boost right there!
