A Delightful Way to
Practice Gratitude and Mindfulness
I think we can agree that practicing gratitude is something we can all benefit from and something we don’t do nearly enough. But what does it mean to practice gratitude, and how do you go about doing it?
Sure, practicing gratitude can be as simple as thinking to yourself, “I’m so grateful to have a warm house since it is snowing outside right now.” (As I write this, I’m looking out my window into a Michigan winter wonderland ?.) But there is a way to make practicing gratitude more impactful.
Plus, you can practice mindfulness –staying present with your thoughts — at the same time. Bonus!
How? By recognizing, claiming, and journaling your Delights!
Keep scrolling to find out what a Delight is.
What is a Delight?
The concept of a Delight has been popularized by poet and essayist Ross Gay and his book aptly titled, The Book of Delights. In Ross’s own words:
[A Delight] often involves an element of surprise or an element of ‘I didn’t know that,’ or ‘I didn’t know that I knew that,’ or ‘I forgot that’ . . . Or something [that is] sweet and reminds us of the good. It’s a category of joy.
And in the words of our FIRST EVER GUEST AUTHOR, Matt Bain:
. . . a Delight is something that gives pleasure, joy, but only once we recognize it for what it is and make a mental affirmation as such.
I can tell you from first-hand experience that recognizing, claiming, and journaling Delights is a calming and inspiring experience. And, it’s just plain fun!
That’s why I’m encouraging you to learn more about the practice of journaling your Delights by:
