Give Yourself a Break
(You'll Thank Yourself Later)
Would you like to enjoy the journey of your life? Rather than just focusing on the destination — your life goals, career goals, or relationship goals. But you find yourself being pulled in so many different directions that enjoying the journey seems almost impossible. Then it’s time to give yourself a break!
If you’re reading this, you’re probably not very good at giving yourself a break. (Psst….neither am I ?) There’s always something else that needs to be done, right? And if you don’t do that “thing”, surely the whole world will spiral into chaos. At least that’s one of the stories I tell myself, and it simply isn’t true.
Let’s face it, giving yourself a break isn’t easy in our fast-paced world where we expect everything to be available on demand. And we tend to translate the demands of society onto ourselves; convincing ourselves that we have to be available on demand as well.
I think we all know that an “on demand” life isn’t going to be a very fulfilling one. And, we can probably agree that this lifestyle is going to eat up the energy we need to reach those goals I mentioned earlier — your life goals, career goals, and relationship goals.
But how do you go about giving yourself a break? Well, I think the first step is to identify and acknowledge the real reason you’re staying busy to begin with. See if one of these reasons resonates with you:
- You’re experiencing FOMO — You’re afraid of missing out on opportunities, so you say yes to everything. And that leaves your time spread pretty thin, with no time left for a break.
- You like the feeling of importance that comes with being busy. You must be important if so many people want a piece of your time, right?

Is This the Reason You Don't
Give Yourself a Break?
#3 – You’re trying to avoid your life, or, rather, you’re trying to avoid facing all those inconvenient truths about yourself that might start popping into your head if you give yourself a break.
Or, do you have another reason in mind? Whatever your reason for not giving yourself a break is, you’re going to have to face it so that you can give yourself the time you need to rest and recover — so that you can enjoy the journey and crush your goals!
