How to Feel Confident About
Your Direction in Life
Maybe you had direction in your life, but you lost it. Maybe the direction you’ve been taking doesn’t feel right anymore. Or, maybe you never had any direction in life to begin with.
Whatever the case may be, there’s one thing you can do to feel confident about your direction in life. (Full disclosure: This “thing” is only the first step. There will be many other difficult steps you will have to take to maintain your confidence. But you have to start somewhere, right?)
Figure out what makes you feel proud of yourself. And do it!
I’m doing it right now ?. I feel proud of myself every time I finish an essay. Or, when I go back and re-read essays I have written. Heck, simply seeing this site pop up on my screen makes me proud.
And that sense of pride is a huge clue that you have chosen the right direction in life. That pride will give you the confidence you need to keep moving in the direction you have chosen. And, of course, the opposite is true too — if you’re not feeling proud of yourself, maybe it’s time to reconsider your direction in life.
But how do I know this?

How I Re-Discovered
My Confidence
My “work life” is split between The Expectation Gaps, a podcast that I co-host, and my accounting business. At the moment, it’s tax season, so I’m dedicating the majority of my time to my accounting business.
Through my accounting work, I’m serving others, doing something that I enjoy, and making a living. So, I tend to find myself asking, Why don’t I just focus on that and drop my other endeavors?
And this week the answer came to me: I can’t focus solely on accounting because it doesn’t fill me with pride. Sure, I take pride in my work, but accounting is easy for me and always has been. It’s something that comes naturally to me. So, when I perform my accounting work well, I don’t necessarily feel proud of myself.
On the other hand, creating content does not come easily to me. So, each time I dive into a creative endeavor, I’m testing my limits, and I become a little bit better each time. And that fills me with pride!
So the question for you is: What’s your content creation? What’s the thing in your life, or that could be a part of your life, that would push you to test your limits? And help you find the pride that will empower you to feel confident in your direction in life?
