Life Lessons Learned By Pursuing My Dreams
If you haven’t read my About Me page, you probably don’t know that I left my career of over 20 years to develop and build this organization.
As I write this, it has been almost seven months since I went from living the life of a CPA (professional accountant) to living the life of a solopreneur and freelance writer. The first offers many comforts — an office, clients, co-workers, and steady income. While the later offers none of those things. They all have to be brought into existence.
The process of bringing these comforts into existence is challenging, tedious, and downright frustrating. But isn’t that true of anything that’s worth having? Anything that really has any meaning at all? And the reason these life-changing experiences bring us meaning is because, after we make it through the struggle, we are left with so many invaluable lessons.
Through this experience, I have learned enough life lessons to fill a book, but I would like to share 3 that are super important. I hope that by sharing them, you’ll see that if I can learn these lessons, you can too. And I hope you’ll be inspired to pursue your dreams.
- Patience. Yes, I’ll admit, I still have a ways to go before I can fully embrace this lesson. However, I have learned that nothing will teach you patience as efficiently as taking a leap of faith to pursue your dream, working toward it relentlessly, and persevering through all the starts and stops that are sure to come your way.
- I can manage without steady income. This is a big one for me. I had worked since I was 16 years old and had never experienced a time in my life that I didn’t have steady income. Before I took my leap, I made sure that I had enough cash socked away to make it at least six months, maybe even a year, without any income. Even so, it is unsettling, to say the least, to spend money and not know when it will be replaced. Here’s the thing you (and I) need to understand — There are always ways to make money, but you may only have one opportunity to pursue your dream. When that opportunity presents itself, take it (responsibly)!
#3’s a good one. Keep scrolling.

Concluding Thoughts
3. I’ve grown to really enjoy my own company. I think the significance of liking yourself is overlooked by a lot of entrepreneurs, especially solopreneurs, and other dream seekers. When you’re pursuing your dream, you’re going to be spending a lot of time by yourself. And even when you’re not alone, you’re going to be spending a lot of time feeling “alone” because no one else is going to have the same passion for your dream that you do. If you’re not emotionally prepared for this, the loneliness could very easily break your spirit. It’s tried to break mine several times. Stop to consider what a huge life lesson this is. The only person you can never get away from is yourself. You better be sure that you like spending time with you. ?
Another way to learn patience is by practicing gratitude. This post might help you start this daily practice:
