Should I Quit My Job?
Whether you’re considering quitting your job or making a career change, you’re going through a scary time in your life. There are so many factors to consider. How will you ever know if you’re making the right decision?
Well, I don’t know that there is a “right” decision, but there is definitely a decision that will lead you toward the fulfilling life you were meant to live. And, I know how you can tell if you’re making the best decision for yourself because, about a year ago, I was in your shoes. Trying to decide if I should quit my job and change careers.
I switched careers and started working on building and growing this organization full-time in April 2019. Since then, I’ve spent hours and hours Deliberately Thinking about what leads people to live a fulfilling life and then writing about it.
So I can say one thing with certainty, if your job/career is not in alignment with your core values, you need to quit and/or make a change.
Now, I’m not saying rush into your boss’s office and declare your independence today, but start thinking about it. Start taking some action.

Concluding Thoughts
3 steps you can take today:
- First and foremost, NAME YOUR CORE VALUES. This process can be a bit intimidating. The list of core values that I use, which was put together by Brene Brown, includes 117 words! And you have to narrow that down to one or two! But, I’m here to help. Check out the “core values” section below.
- Once you know what your core values are, name the top 2 or 3 things about your job that have led you to consider leaving it.
- Do you have any control over changing the “things” you listed? Are they fixable problems? Or, do these things conflict with your core values, and, therefore, they are not fixable?
There’s the fail-safe way to know — if you answer yes to that last question! Then you know that it’s time to figure out how you’re going to quit your job or make a career change.
