The Most Effective Way to Calm Your Anxiety
I’m going to tell how to calm your anxiety; the most effective way that I have found. But first, let’s talk about anxiety a little bit.
As my post on Monday eluded to, I have been dealing with a bit of anxiety myself lately. (Deal With Burnout: 3 Things You Can Do Today) The weird thing is, whenever I get to the point of burnout, it somehow catches me unawares. I usually know that I’m mildly worried about something, or at least I think it’s mild, then all of a sudden I get knocked on my ass into total burnout. And it leaves me thinking, where did that come from?
Maybe this has happened to you too, and that’s why I think it’s important that we first point out three signs of anxiety that you may not even associate with anxiety.
- Irritability. As a friend of mine and I call it, you feel “crunchy.” Everyone and everything is annoying the heck out of you and you just want people to leave you alone. On the other hand, you don’t really want to be alone, you just want everyone to straighten up ? Your patience and your fuse are short. I had a bad case of crunchiness last week.
- Bouts of dizziness. I’ve been dealing with this too and have several different times in my life. There have been a few times that I ended up going to the doctor because of it only to find out “everything’s good.” Yay! But what’s wrong with me? Anxiety.
- Loss of interest/focus. This is a tough one and can lead to a downward spiral if you don’t catch it. There is something very important to you that you want to work on (for me, it’s this organization), but you find yourself having a hard time focusing on it. You haven’t completely lost interest, but part of you definitely wants to throw in the towel. I’ve been feeling this way about the series I am writing right now. I’m happy with the topic and theme, but it just feels like it’s not coming together for some reason. I’m not giving up, but I am losing focus.
Keep scrolling to find out how to calm your anxiety most effectively. (Caveat: I’m not talking about severe anxiety that may need to be treated by a professional; I’m talking about common anxiety that we all experience to varying degrees.)
Concluding Thoughts
Here it is . . . How to most effectively calm anxiety: Do the thing you have been putting off or are afraid of doing .
Doing this “thing” will help in two ways:
- You will be so focused on the “thing” you have been putting off/afraid to do that you won’t be worrying about anything else. Focusing on just one thing can help a lot.
- Once you do the “thing,” you will either succeed, in which case you’ll gain the confidence that comes along with that. Or, you’ll fail, in which case you’ll see that life goes on, and you’ll gain the confidence that comes along with that. Either way, you win.
