The Power of Realizing
Nobody is Perfect
If you know me, this may come as a shock, but I am not perfect. I know; I know. I’ll give you a minute to process that ?
But seriously, nobody is perfect. Sure, the logical part of your brain knows this, but your ego often tries to convince you otherwise. Your ego can lead you to believe that there are plenty of perfect people out there, just not you. (If you want to learn about your ego, check out this 1-Minute Motivation.)
As we work toward becoming Deliberate Thinkers and living the fulfilling life we were meant to live, it’s important to routinely remind ourselves that nobody is perfect — even the successful leaders who we look to for inspiration.
Actually, I think these leaders, the ones whose success we try to model, can be the most intimidating of all, on the surface. It’s easy to look at them and the successes they have achieved and think, “Wow! I could never do that. They obviously have something special that I don’t have.”
Maybe they do, maybe the don’t, but the truth is, no one becomes successful without wading through a lot of hardship, loss, and failure along the way. That’s what gives leaders the resilience to keep going. The fact that they’ve already come back from the bottom and they know they can do it again if they have to.

3 Powers of Realizing
Nobody Is Perfect
- The power of realizing nobody is perfect is that you know you’re not alone. You know that every successful person has been where you are at some point — facing failure, down on their luck, or worse.
- The power of realizing nobody is perfect is that you know successful people don’t try to be perfect. Successful people allow themselves to be vulnerable. They allow themselves to fail, and they even learn to welcome failure as a valuable teacher.
- The power of realizing nobody is perfect is that you know we all face advantages and disadvantages. Sure, that successful person you are trying to model might have had a better family life than you; they might have had more money than you; but there’s something you have that they don’t. You need to train your brain to start focusing on your advantages (privileges) rather than your disadvantages. That’s powerful! (For examples of some privileges you may have, check out this post.)
