Yes, You Have the Strength to
Face Life's Challenges
Life, God, The Universe, whatever you want to call it, can act like a jerky older brother sometimes. (I’m picturing the older brother from The Wonder Years; don’t remember his name, Wayne maybe.) Just when things are going well, when you think maybe you’ve got one facet of your life figured out, It comes along and trips you up, just to see how you’ll react.
And in those moments, you need to dig deep and find your strength to face life’s challenges. When I say “life’s challenges,” I mean any obstacle you are facing that is making it difficult to stay motivated; to focus on anything but that obstacle; and to get all the things you “should” get done done.
But you know that you have to find the strength to face this obstacle head-on so that you can live the fulfilling life you were meant to live.
So how do you find that strength? I imagine what I’m about to tell you won’t work for everyone, but it works for me. I hope that you can find at least one thing you can grab onto that will work for you too.
3 Empowering Tips for Finding the Strength to Face Life’s Challenges:
- Educate yourself. Find out as much as you can about what might be causing this obstacle, how other people have dealt with it, and figure out how you can deal with it. My obstacle right now is adrenal fatigue brought on by a hormone imbalance. It is making mornings very difficult to get through and completely throwing off my morning routine, and the rest of my day. But, I’m working on learning what changes I can make to my diet, exercise, etc. to get it under control. (P.S. I have seen my doctor, and there is nothing “medically” wrong with me. I don’t mean to promote self-diagnoses.)
- Re-evaluate your priorities. What do you really need to get done today? What do you just think you need to get done today? Is it really your priority or someone else’s? Don’t take on “extra” things right now; not until you get this challenge your facing figured out. For me, that means I’m staying on top of the commitments I’ve already made to my family, the members of this organization, and my accounting clients, but I’m not trying anything new or taking on any extra responsibility right now.

Empowering Tip #3
#3 – Focus on one thing at a time. This kind of ties in with #2. Write down 1 – 3 things you need to accomplish today; things you have committed yourself to. (Whether you can accomplish 1, 2, or 3 things will depend on the time commitment involved with each one.) Take care of #1, and then reassess how you’re doing. Are you ready to tackle #2, or do you need to take a break? Or, has something else become more important since you made the list? Then do that thing, and so on. For me, today I am committed to (1) publishing a 1-Minute Motivation, (2) getting a weekly report to an accounting client of mine, and (3) taking my daughter to Taekwondo practice. Those 3 things will get done today. And I will accomplish as much as I can otherwise.
