Yes, You Can Be a
Confident Speaker
You don’t have to be the most charismatic speaker, or the most eloquent speaker, or the most engaging speaker. Maybe you’ll never be any of these things, and maybe you’re perfectly fine with that. But, yes, you can still be a confident speaker!
Being a confident speaker is important in all aspects of your life. I could probably name 100 reasons this statement is true, but let’s focus on just one today.
- You have to be a confident speaker if you want to meet your needs. (You know, those basic human needs outlined by my buddy, Abraham Maslow.) And you have to meet your needs in order to realize your full potential.
In a nutshell, the realization of your personal development goals depends on your ability to confidently express your needs, boundaries, and expectations.
I’m going to give you a behind-the-scenes look at how I’ve become a more confident speaker over the past year and a half, (yes, I’m trying to make it sound more remarkable than it really is ?) but first, I want to share an observation that I’ve made with you.
This observation might reduce a bit of the self-doubt that is leading you to believe you’ll never be a confident speaker.
- Most of the people I consider to be highly intelligent — Elon Musk, Noam Chomsky, Jordan Peterson, Abraham Maslow, and Carl Jung, to name a few — are not charismatic, eloquent, or particularly engaging in the delivery of their words.
Why? Because they are not linear thinkers. Meaning, they draw conclusions from unrelated concepts or ideas. So, as their brains are formulating a sentence, it is, at the same time, scanning its database for other concepts or ideas that might make that sentence more complete or meaningful.
The result? Their speech is usually more drawn out. They may correct themselves quite often. And, their message may take a few twists and turns as it makes its way to you. And yet, they are all very confident speakers with very important messages to deliver.
Keep scrolling for that behind-the-scenes look I promised.
