Fulfillment Comes From
Playing the Long Game
‘Tis the season of New Year’s Resolutions. And what do we all know about New Year’s Resolutions? They’re typically not made to last. Why?
Because they’re typically short-term, unrealistic, and tied to a meaningless result.
For example, let’s say you weigh 180 pounds, and you resolve to lose 30 pounds by January 31st. Okay, then what? And doesn’t it seem pretty unrealistic to lose 1 lb/day consistently (and is that even healthy)? Plus, what are you really trying to accomplish? You’re not going to gain strength, stamina, and overall better health in 31 days. And whatever you’re doing to lose a pound a day is not something you’re going to be able to continue long-term. You might even feel worse at the end of the 31 days and abandon your fitness journey altogether.
The point is, short-term goals alone DO NOT WORK! Short-term goals are great for building mental toughness and discipline, but they have to be tied to a long-term goal to produce meaningful results.
Playing the long game means that you first figure out what you want your life to look like and why you want it to be that way. Then you can start creating short-term goals that will become the building blocks of the fulfilling life that you are creating.
The only way you will ever stick with a goal long-term is if it fulfills you. So you need to start by gaining some self-awareness! Luckily, I’m here to help ?
