How to Triple Down on
Your Strengths
Do you focus on your weaknesses more than your strengths? All the things you want to change about yourself rather than all the amazing qualities you already possess. Of course you do — we all do! But what if we shifted our mindsets?
What if, rather than doubling down on your weaknesses, you tripled down on your strengths? And could you, in fact, do both at the same time? By tripling down on your strengths, maybe you would also be indirectly addressing your weaknesses.
I don’t know if that’s possible, but it’s certainly worth a try. But, before I get to the “how to” part of this post, I have to give credit to Gary Vaynerchuk. He talked about tripling down on your strengths in a video I watched over the weekend, and his words inspired this post. You can find a link to that video at the bottom of this page.
3 steps to triple down on your strengths:
- Make an exhaustive list of all your strengths. I did this a few months before I began this organization, and I know it was one of the dominoes that needed to fall for me to get here.
- Identify the strengths that you enjoy practicing. Go through the list and circle them, highlight them, or whatever works for you. For example, one of the strengths I identified when I performed this exercise is that I’m good at summarizing and organizing information. And, I enjoy doing so. (Yes, I know; I’m a dork ?)
Keep scrolling to find step 3.
Step #3
#3 – Identify the strengths that add the most value to your life. In my life, summarizing and organizing information offer me a lot of value. These are necessary skills to create content, market content, and also are essential skills for the accounting work that I perform.
Now it’s your turn! Go through the 3 steps to find out which strengths you want to triple down on. You don’t have to undertake all 3 steps in one day. Maybe take on one step each day for the next 3 days. But take the time for yourself to focus on your strengths rather than your weaknesses for a change.
