Companion post to
“Have You Opened Your Heart to God?“
In the companion post, we considered alternate definitions of God and Heaven.
We learned that we are all connected to God; we are all one with God.
We also learned that God is love. If we expect to open our hearts to God, we have to “be” love too. We have to learn to love and accept ourselves.
Let’s start by having faith in ourselves. I think a lot of the Bible verses that seem to talk about having faith in God are actually encouraging us to have faith in ourselves. Let’s look at 5 of them.
#1 Proverbs 3:5 - Trust the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding
The Expectation Gaps (TEG) Translation
-
- If we believe that we are all one with God, then this verse tells us to trust in ourselves with all our hearts.
- It tells us not to lean into our own expectations [understanding].
- Rather, we should have faith in ourselves and our inner voice.
#2 Psalm 9:10 - And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.
TEG Translation
-
- Those who are one with God and who are authentic with themselves [know thy name] will learn to have faith in themselves.
- They will not forsake themselves, forsake their values, because they know, accept, and love who they are.
#3 Psalm 112:7 - He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the Lord.
TEG Translation
-
- As long as you trust yourself (who is one with God) you don’t need to worry about bad things happening to you.
- Bad things will happen, but you will have faith in yourself to make it through whatever life throws at you.
#4 Hebrews 11:6 - But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
TEG Translation
-
- Without faith in yourself, without loving and accepting yourself, it is impossible to please God.
- Because you are one with God.
- If you seek to understand yourself (examine your expectations), you will be rewarded. (You will realize your full potential.)
#5 Proverbs 29:25 - The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the Lord shall be safe.
TEG Translation
-
- Fear is going to trap and contain you.
- Fear will keep your heart closed.
- You can have faith and trust in yourself to keep yourself safe because you are one with God.
- You can release your fears and open your heart.
